Jamhuri Park (Forodhani)

From Beloved Park to Youth Empowerment Platform:

The Tanga Yetu initiative aims to reimagine Tanga City with the well-being and aspirations of its younger population at the heart. The park’s redesign reflects this focus. Local youth and stakeholders actively participated in the co-creation process, ensuring the space caters to diverse needs. Modern amenities like pavilions, restrooms, restaurants, and a dedicated play area enhance the park’s functionality, while strategically placed advertising boards offer income-generating opportunities.

Over 50 Young Entrepreneurs Find Their Footing:

Patrick Waziri, Program Coordinator for the Botnar Foundation, emphasizes the park’s role as a launchpad for young businesses. “Jamhuri Park isn’t just for recreation,” he explains, “it’s a platform where young entrepreneurs can thrive. We envision it as a hub where innovation meets leisure, contributing significantly to the city’s economic vibrancy.” More than 50 young entrepreneurs have already established themselves within the park, fostering a spirit of local ownership and entrepreneurship.

Beyond Recreation: A Boost for Health and Image

The park’s design subtly promotes physical health by offering ample space for exercise and outdoor activities. Tanga Regional Chairman Rajab Abdulrahman Abdallah sees this holistic approach as a model for future projects. “Jamhuri Park should be a blueprint,” he stated during his visit. “We need more spaces that cater to youth, attract visitors, and elevate Tanga’s profile as a dynamic city.” The park’s popularity has surged, drawing in more visitors and generating additional Inspiration for Future Urban Development:

As Jamhuri Park thrives in its first year after renovation, it inspires similar initiatives across the region. The Tanga Yetu Initiative remains dedicated to transforming urban landscapes into sustainable ecosystems that empower youth and foster growth for future generations. This project exemplifies how strategic investment and community collaboration can redefine urban development, prioritizing youth and creating a vibrant future for Tanga City.
