The 14th Steering Committee Meeting of the TangaYetu program was held on 7–8 April 2025 at Tanga Beach Resorts Hotel, bringing together key stakeholders to review progress and make strategic decisions for the next phase of implementation.

Chaired by Mr. Juma Iddi, the meeting was attended by Steering Committee members including the Tanga City Director, Eng. Juma Hamsini, Fondation Botnar country representatives, the TangaYetu Secretariat (INNOVEX), and two youth representatives. These quarterly meetings are an important governance platform that ensures the program remains aligned with community needs, maintains accountability, and stays focused on impact.

The first day featured a presentation by the Communications Consultant on the documentation of the impact of Phase I, which will be shared with the public later this month. The presentation reflected the outcomes of various initiatives across the city, ranging from improved school environments to youth engagement in technology and agriculture.

Beda Msimbe, a member of the Communications Consultant team, contributed to documenting Phase I of the program.

Members also listened to seven potential implementing partners who presented project proposals in the areas of Economic Empowerment and Social & Community Engagement. These are two of the six focus areas of the TangaYetu program, alongside Health and Wellbeing, Educational Enhancements, Technology and Innovation, and Environmental Sustainability.

On the second day, the Secretariat delivered a detailed progress report outlining achievements and key milestones since the last Steering Committee meeting in December 2024. This was followed by a review of six financial proposals submitted by partners the day before. The committee agreed on moving forward with selected initiatives, while due diligence will be conducted on others before final approval.

This two-day meeting demonstrated the strength of the program’s collaborative structure and its emphasis on sustainability, stronger monitoring, and effective implementation. It also showed how the Steering Committee continues to play a critical role in guiding the program with insight and care.

Looking ahead, the Secretariat will initiate due diligence activities for the shortlisted partners, and findings will be presented during the next extraordinary Steering Committee meeting, scheduled for May 2025. These steps mark a significant moment as TangaYetu prepares to roll out Phase II projects designed to empower youth and enhance community wellbeing in Tanga.
