The Redevelopment of Jamhuri Park (Forodhani) project, located along Independence Avenue in Tanga City, was awarded to V.J. Mistry & Co. LTD and has become a vibrant community hub. Using a co-creation design approach, the project incorporated inputs from various stakeholders and helped shape Machingas’ markets in regions like Dodoma, Arusha, Tunduma, and Mwanza.
One of the key achievements of the project was its recognition at a national forum during Environment Week in Mwanza, where the Vice President was the guest of honor. The forum led to resolutions, including the development of a beach plots master plan, which aligns with environmental and urban development goals.
The project has provided economic opportunities, benefiting 50 youth who were given space to run small businesses in the park. Additionally, more than 10 service providers now benefit from the park’s new infrastructure, including a pavilion, toilet, restaurant, kids’ playing area, and advertisement boards.
As a result, the park has become a popular destination, attracting more visitors than ever before and contributing to increased city revenue. Furthermore, it offers a valuable space for physical exercise, promoting health and well-being for the residents of Tanga City.
