On July 17, 2023, the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Tanga, Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, had the opportunity to visit various projects being implemented under TangaYetu, accompanied by a representative from the Foundation Botnar Tanzania, Dr. Hassan Mshinda. Some of the projects visited included the Agribusiness project implemented by SUGECO, Fisheries project implemented by TCC/MoLF, Kuroiler F1 Poultry farming project implemented by AKM Glitters, Jamhuri Park implemented by Vj Ministry & Co LTD, ABECC, TCC,

Transformation City Environment for Health and Productive Development of Children and Adolescents implemented by D-LAB and Living Lab, ARISE Adolescent Health Survey implemented by Africa Academy for Public Health, and the Road Safety Project implemented by AMEND.

Through this visit, Hon. Ummy Mwalimu had the opportunity to observe the progress of each project and commend the project implementers while also encouraging the citizens to make good use of these opportunities to improve their economic well-being.

On the 9th of June 2023, the National Uhuru Torch arrived at the center of youth economic empowerment located at Tumbili Neema site, Led by Abdalah Shaibu Kaimu accompanied by dignitaries and representatives, including the Minister of Health Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, Tanga City Mayor Hon. Abdurahman Shiloow, and District Commissioner Hon.

Hashim Shaibu Mgandilwa, who came together to inspect and launch the site along with it’ s associated projects including Youth Empowerment in Agribusiness project implemented byThe Sokoine University Graduate Entrepreneurs Cooperative (SUGECO), Fish (Tilapia) farming project using modern ponds and Kuroiler F1 Poultry farming project , implemented by AKM Glitters.

PRISM Communication, in collaboration with Tree of Hope and TAYOTA, successfully executed a transformative roadshow activation event on May 26th and 27th in 10 wards from Tanga City Council. Through the ward visits, the roadshow fostered a platform for dialogues and discussion, with community members about violence against children and adolescents including causes of violence, how to identify a violated victim and where to report such incidents when they occurr.

It also helped to drive behavioral change and develop sustainable impacts among the community members from each ward visited including Mwanzange, Msambweni, Mabawa, Mzingani, Makorora, Kiomoni, Mzizima, Chumbageni, Maweni, and Pongwe .

On May 20th 2023 the TangaYetu TV show, a production by PRISM Communication Limited was officially launched at Tangamano grounds by the city Mayor Hon. Abraham Shillow, goal of the TV show is to further amplify the impact of the projects implemented under the TangaYetu program and reach a wider audience from in and out of Tanga, the show airs air four times a week on Tanga TV with Fresh episodes broadcasted every Saturdays at 19:30 pm, followed by repeat telecasts on Sundays at 21:00, Wednesdays at 15:00, and again at 21:00. Each 30-minute episode would provide a comprehensive coverage of specific projects implemented under the TangaYetu program

On April 1st, 2023, an educational training event was held at Tanga City council with the aim of providing youth valuable information and insights about various opportunities available in fishing industry from Tanga, so they can pursue careers in this field and bring a significant impact on the blue economy

The training event was graced by Tanga City Director Dr. Sipora Liana and City Mayor Hon. Abdulrahman Shillow who encouraged them to be active in grabbing these opportunities.

RLabs Tanzania launched the Mind-set Change and Entrepreneurship project on 26th January 2022. The project aims to improve the quality of life for young people in Tanga by raising their confidence, income and community engagement.

The project kicks off meeting brought together representatives of five NGO’s based in Tanga as well as Tanga City Council officials and this included: the City Director, Community Development Officers, Ward Officers, Department Heads as well as the City Director. The City leadership was optimistic with the program and agreed to collaborate in the implementation process.

Tanzania Bora initiative, in collaboration with Sahara Ventures and ProjektInspire, organised a four-day science training Boot Camp for secondary school students in Tanga to enable them to solve community problems through coding.

Tanga District Education officer Mr. Lusajo Gwakisa, officiated the Boot-Camp opening on 2nd August 2021.

The Boot Camp was held at Tanga Stem Park and brought together 100 students from nine schools in Tanga, namely: Tanga School, Tanga Technical School, Old Tanga Secondary School, Mkwakwani Secondary School, Mikanjuni Secondary School, Toledo Secondary School, Kiomoni Secondary School, Nguvumali Secondary School and Usagara Secondary School.

The training commenced with a Design Thinking training and team-building exercises led by Mr. Ismail Birro, Tanzania Bora Deputy Executive Director.

Students were then divided into five groups and joined in parallel training sessions on Robotics, Animation and Gaming, Web Design, Mobile App Development and Engineering.

Ardhi University, Dlab and the Tanga City Council, under theLivingLab initiative, trained 20 young people from Tanga, 25 Students from Ardhi University and 5 interns on spatial data on 16th August 2021.

The one-week workshop aimed to equip young people with the skills for collecting and manipulating data using emerging technologies to address community challenges and make better decisions. This is expected to create employment opportunities and build a city innovation ecosystem.

The training was officially opened by the Tanga City Director, Ms. Sporah Liana, where she commended the Living Lab initiative in building skills and creating employment opportunities.

Students also had the opportunity to learn extensively from experts based at the Zanzibar’s Commission for Lands on Unmanned Aerial System(UAS) mapping using low-cost drones.

After the seminar, students and interns will start collecting and processing the data for 40 days. They will work on at least three use cases: solid waste management, city safety index mapping (e.g. risks of crime, flooding or others to help youth safe) and a city development control information system.

Tanga is the first city in Tanzania to have a science centre (STEMPark).

The centre, launched on 28th May 2021, provides opportunities for young people to learn science through practice.

The centre is managed by Projekt Inspire in collaboration with theTanga City council

Swahili Digital and Jobs Tanzania kicked off the Digital skills project in Tanga on 4th February 2022. The launch event gathered 100 youth from Tanga city

The project aims to support youth in Tanga city access online job opportunities.

Experts will train 100 young people for 12 weeks on digital skills and link them with recruiters.
